The Church of Santa Maria
|
Mentioned for the first time in the 9th century, the church of Santa Maria Assunta is located a short distance outside the village. Extended numerous times over the years, the bardilian marble façade contrasts with the 15th century rose window decorated with little arches and brackets carved with figures depicting various images.
The open gallery was added in the 17th century to repair the passage from the rectory to the church. The lacunar ceiling also dates back to the same era, as well as the three naves and the decorative columns. Among the works of art present in the church, the 17th century altar piece, which is attributed to Rosselli and depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, and the 18th century organ located above the main entrance, stand out the most.
