THE PALACES OF PIETRASANTA
Palazzo Moroni Palazzo Moroni
The historical centre of Pietrasanta has many palaces, a sign of the importance and wealth of the village in ancient times.
In Piazza Duomo, next to the complex of St. Augustine, stands the Palazzo Moroni. In nineteenth-style, is the result of the union of two existing buildings, which were acquired in the XVII century from the Commune of Pietrasanta: the house of the Fathers Augustinians and the house bordering the notary Morrone Morroni, left as a legacy.
The interiors are valuable with ceilings with cross vaults on the ground floor, beautiful floors and the great hall. It was headquarters of the Chancellery and the Captainship of Pietrasanta. Today it is home of the Historical Archive and the The Bruno Antonucci Versilian Archaeological Museum.
The Palazzo Pretorio instead was formerly headquarters of the Bank of Vicari and Captains of Justice.
In the vestibule and façade it has many coats of arms of families who ruled Pietrasanta. In the XIV century it was purchased by the Commune, when it became the seat of vicars until the XIX century. It was restored in the XV, XVIII and XIX century.
Important as well the XV century Panichi-Carli palace and the “Palazzo della Posta”, built by Ferdinand I de 'Medici at the end of the XVI century.
