The house in which Giosue Carducci was born is situated in Valdicastello. Named a national monument in 1907, the house has now been turned into a museum, giving visitors access to four rooms furbished with furniture that belonged to Carducci himself. Carducci was born in 1835, to Michele Carducci, who was a surgeon at the local hospital. After the death of his father in 1836, the Carducci family left the city and the poet did not return to his birthplace until years later, in 1890.
